In the midst of visiting friend's college campuses during my gap year and staying in their dorms with them and their roommates, I wondered how much bacteria lived in their bedsheets. Busy lifestyles in combination with the collage of items students bring from home make for an interesting representation of the self.
I did quick research and found "common bacteria/fungi/mold present on beds" is understood, but not the distribution of frequency and scale.
This is an ongoing project that swabs college students' personal items and bedsheets, and grows petri dishes as representations of daily life. There are currently 4 iterations.
