Between preschool to age 6, my sister did gymnastics. While traveling and watching these competitions, I often drew to pass the time.
According to my family, they once noticed me sitting to the side in an event room at the hotel, drawing some kids assembling a big toy train track. Apparently, I drew the scene with perspective techniques, and knew I needed more challenging teacher than kids art classes I'd been going to.
They found a teacher, Mataya, (https://www.yessy.com/mataya13/gallery.html), who taught ages 7 to adults to paint and draw realistically. I did that until I was 15, only stopping due to COVID restrictions. Paint and charcoal are still my personal favorite mediums.
